NEW YORK, NY, January 16, 2008 – TransPerfect, a leading provider of language services to multinational businesses, today announced that the Office of the Mayor of the City of New York has, in recognition of TransPerfect’s 15 years of business leadership, declared December 9, 2007 “TransPerfect Day” by official proclamation.
This announcement came during TransPerfect’s annual leadership summit and 15-year anniversary celebration this past weekend, which featured a keynote address by Former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.). The proclamation was bestowed upon the company during a gala dinner and award ceremony last Saturday evening in New York City, which was attended by over 750 of TransPerfect’s global staff members, including TransPerfect Founders Liz Elting and Phil Shawe.
On behalf of Mayor Bloomberg, Mr. Mitchell L. Moss presided over ceremony. Mr. Moss is the Henry Hart Rice Professor of Urban Policy and Planning at New York University. The proclamation reads as follows:
Whereas: |
New York is the world’s most diverse metropolis and the center of the global economy. So it is only natural that our five boroughs—where 200 languages are spoken and more Fortune 500 companies make their home than any other American city—would be the birthplace of TransPerfect, the world’s largest privately-owned language solutions company. |
Whereas: |
TransPerfect’s incredible success is a quintessential New York story of creative thinking and bold action. When TransPerfect was founded, its only employees were Liz Elting and Phil Shawe, who minted the operation in a New York University dormitory. Its biggest asset was a great idea. Today, the company employs 1500 men and women, earns $2500 million annually, and boasts over 60 offices on five continents – providing high-quality, specialized language and business solutions to help companies achieve their full potential in the global marketplace. |
Whereas: |
As TransPerfect employees from around the globe gather to celebrate their 15th Anniversary, they can take great pride in everything they’ve already accomplished. If the past 15 years of growth are any indication, they can also look forward to even greater achievements on the horizon. On behalf of the City of New York, congratulations on a momentous milestone and best wishes for continued success! |
Now therefore, I, Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, in recognition of this important anniversary, do hereby proclaim Sunday, December 9th, 2007 in the City of New York as: “TransPerfect Day.” |
