Local campaign part of Girl Scouts of the USA effort to create greater awareness of scouting program among Hispanic parents
New York, April 12, 2011 - TransPerfect, the world’s largest privately held provider of language services and translation-related technologies, today announced that it is working with Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, which provides traditional programs, community outreach and education services to meet the leadership development needs of girls and adult volunteers in the 32 counties it serves. In response to the Girl Scouts of the USA’s (GSUSA) national media campaign that focuses on Hispanic and multicultural recruitment, the Northeast Texas council created its own initiative, engaging TransPerfect to tap its deep expertise in Hispanic marketing initiatives and create Spanish-language recruitment materials, program collateral and Girl Scouting guides.
In announcing its national effort, GSUSA noted that Hispanic communities have one of the only girl populations in the country that is growing. Reaching that market is crucial to the nearly 100-year-old organization, which currently counts one in 10 American girls as members. The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, which serves 40,000 girls and supports 16,000 volunteers, localized this national effort by launching a bilingual website and recreating print materials.
“In Northeast Texas, we create the infrastructure to support our Hispanic families and begin to build a membership base that reflects the demographics of the communities we serve,” said Gwyneth Lloyd, chief program officer, Hispanic Welcome Initiative, of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. “TransPerfect eased the process of creating Spanish-language recruitment and program materials and has become a key partner in our endeavors to bring the benefits of Girl Scouting to more members of our community.”
The council plans to extend its Hispanic initiative by working with TransPerfect to develop relevant communication for Hispanic parents and girls across all channels of the Web and print materials. TransPerfect will also work with GSUSA to continue developing Hispanic Welcome Initiative Tools for welcome kits, volunteer brochures and flyers. This work will help identify the best ways to provide family-based activities within troops and at Girl Scout camps.
“GSUSA says Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere. In much of the country, meeting that vision requires updated, accurate and compelling Spanish-language materials to educate parents on the value of membership for their daughters,” said Liz Elting, president and CEO of TransPerfect. “We are delighted to work with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas to support its mission to bring programs and events to more girls in its region.”
