Holidaymakers in Croatia will enjoy a richer and more authentic experience in the country if they go to the trouble of learning a little Croatian before jetting off to the Dalmatian Coast, if one expert is to be believed.

Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, says people must be ready to acclimatise to a new culture and surroundings.

She advises travellers to spend some time researching the traditions, culture and ways of life within a country so they know what to expect.

"Preparation is key for when you travel. If you're going to a country where they don't speak your language, you're going to have to make some sort of preparation," Ms Livingston states.

Croatian hospitality may be considered by some as a reason for heading to the country and a basic understanding of the language could ensure it is at its most welcoming on a particular trip.

A recent survey by TransPerfect found the biggest problem for Britons who cannot speak the native tongue when abroad comes when using public transport.
